KITTERY, MAINE

Kittery Family Beach House Kitchen

This client approached us about a kitchen design in our very first days—during the height of the pandemic— no showroom displays, just a folding table set up in the warehouse with a laptop and printer. This client owned a family home in Kittery, Maine and after his wife had passed away he wanted to honor her, the home, the life they had created along with their beautiful daughter, by renovating the kitchen in a way that would remind them of their life and allow for new celebrations and new beginnings together.

Shortly after our project completed the homeowner passed away suddenly, we will always be thankful and remember how amazing it was to have his trust placed onto us when we were just beginning and for his patience while pandemic lead times increased by two months mid-project.

This client wanted to utilize the new ceiling height after pulling the drop ceiling off to expose the roof line. We decided to place transom cabinets in as his uppers which would then allow for a second dedicated door on top. Once we made that decision we opted to glass out the top doors so he could showcase his wife's blue dishes and pull the color pallet together.

The new kitchen has Norcraft Pivot cabinetry, Maple cabinets painted in rainstorm and white opaques. The kitchen is a full overlay door style with five piece drawer fronts, dovetail drawer box construction, and all plywood ¾” cabinetry. We decided on wainscot paneled ends for the island to add more structure and enclose the stools on the backside. Because we chose Pivot we opened up room to splurge on the countertops and the client and his daughter chose Cambria Portrush quartz. Portrush has a strong veining pattern in blue with flecks of gold, which made choosing gold faucet and hardware the natural decision.
